Master Classes and Mini Workshops

Volunteer at Port RestylePort Restyle’s The Sewing Club run a range of exciting sewing skills workshops run by a qualified and experienced tutor. In a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, with the tea and coffee pot always at the ready, why not come and learn something new! We provide all materials and machines, so you don’t have to worry about that.

The Master Classes all take place at the café in the Enterprise Village, Grimsby and are £18 a class.

The Mini Workshops take place alongside the weekly café class at the Enterprise Village, Grimsby. These are ideal for complete beginners and we can supply material and sewing machines, if you wish. The class runs from 6pm to 8pm, is £8 per person to book on to, with a maximum of 4 people.

Week 1 Level 1 How to use a sewing machine.
Week 2 Level 1 Refresh! Revist the skills from the first week.
Week 3 Level 2 Learn how to cover piping cord and the art of bias cutting so that your covered piping cord can turn corners and turn in circles. After learning these skills you will be able to make an envelope cushion cover (no zip necessary).
Week 4 Level 2 Make an envelope cushion cover.

Week 7 Level 3
Week 8 Quilting, Level 4 "Woven Wool Interlining"! Learn patch working skills to let some great creativity flow in the home and in fashion. You will learn how to measure and cut accurately; to construct a quilt made of squares of your chosen fabrics. We will teach you the techniques to be able to precisely place the joints correctly for a highly professional finish. You will be able to back the squares with padding and an underbacking and be able to quilt the squares in place. For a final finish, you will learn how to make bias binding to edge your quilt or throw.
Week 9 Level 4 Make a "lap quilit" or small throw, or even a baby quilt.

Week 13 Level 5 Curtain making skills. You will learn to construct a lined curtain sample. You will learn how to pattern match, and professionally mitre corners and to hand-sew hems. Machine stitching will be used to stitch sides and secure heading tape in place.
